The
Out of School Child Care club service provided by (Newcastle &) North
Staffs Play Council includes both before and after school activities. The
age of youngsters is 3½ - 13 years and includes those with 'special
needs'.
Recent reports have shown that the problems of 'latch-key' children are
as acute as ever and the lack of out-of-school hours child care is one of
the main obstacles for parents wishing to return to employment or further
education.
The Out-of-School Clubs can
- assist employers in the recruitment and retention of staff and
single parents.
- assure employers that they can reliably recruit staff with school
age children.
- provide a safe and well supervised meeting place for youngsters
before and after school.
- extend education and give opportunities to practice new skills.
- allow young people to develop relationships with their peer and with
adults.
- encourage young people, through a varied programme of activities, to
play a more active role in their community.
Benefits to be gained by Employees, Parents/Guardians and the
Community
- takes the pressure off parents, whose in training or those requiring
a respite.
- documented evidence points to there being a reduction in vandalism
and accidents in the home and on the roads.
